Les indiennes de Nîmes

Les Indiennes de Nimes continue the tradition started with the import of textiles into southern France by the India Company in the 18th century.  Later local weavers in Avignon took up the manufacture and today, Les Indiennes de Nimes are combining traditional know-how with original archive patterns to keep alive the Camargue textile heritage, especially in local feria festivals.

Worship side

You’ll find this handsome waistcoat in the most reputable shops that specialize in equestrian clothing and that dress the most sophisticated horsemen. The strictness of the moleskin fabric frames the silhouette and gives the wearer poise and elegance.

From Marseille to Nimes, Carpentras to Uzès and beyond, the formal outfit of the Camargue horsemen (the gardians) has been part of the collective Provencal memory for as long as we can remember. Denim, i.e. cotton moleskin, was invented in the area (“de Nimes”) and is now traded worldwide.

For gentlemen, this vest will give you an authentic dandy air, while for girls, it is something to try without anything underneath or with a simple t-shirt.

Always with its black braiding on piping and pockets and available in all the traditional colours of Camargue, this vest would definitely give credibility to a pair of balloon sleeves or a touch of mystery to a plain shirt.
